Hydrovim: Engineered for Faster Flow and Cleaner Drainage
When it comes to drainage, the shape of the drain matters.
At Hydrovim, our V-based drain design makes use of a simple principle: hydrodynamics. By controlling how water moves through the drain, the V-shaped base helps create faster, more efficient flow while significantly reducing the amount of residual water left behind after draining.
The Problem with Flat-Bottom Drains
Traditional flat-bottom drains can move large volumes of water, but as the flow rate decreases towards the end of a draining cycle, water can spread across the flat surface and lose velocity.
The result is residual water remaining in the drain.
And where water remains, contaminants can accumulate.
Over time, this stagnant residual water can contribute to the build-up of sludge, slime and other contaminants. That means more frequent cleaning, more maintenance and greater effort to keep the drainage system hygienic.
Why the V Makes a Difference
Hydrovim drains are designed differently.
Rather than allowing water to spread across a wide, flat base, the V-shaped profile naturally concentrates the remaining water towards the lowest point of the drain.
As the volume of water decreases, the narrowing profile helps maintain water depth and velocity for longer. This encourages the remaining water to continue moving towards the outlet instead of spreading into a shallow layer across the bottom of the drain.
The result is a drainage system designed to provide:

- Reduced sludge and slime accumulation

We don’t believe drainage performance should simply be measured by how much water a system can handle at peak flow. What happens when the majority of the water has already drained is just as important.
By using the V-shaped base to concentrate and direct the remaining flow, Hydrovim drains are designed to evacuate water more completely. Less residual water means fewer opportunities for sediment, organic material and contaminants to settle and develop into sludge or slime.
That can translate into a cleaner drainage system with significantly reduced cleaning requirements compared with conventional flat-bottom designs.
It’s Also Where Our Name Comes From
The name Hydrovim was born from this same idea.
Hydro refers to water.
Vim means energy, vigour and vitality — a word associated with speed and energetic movement.
Put the two together and Hydrovim can be roughly interpreted as “fast water.”
It’s a simple name for the principle at the heart of our drainage systems: use intelligent geometry and hydrodynamics to keep water moving quickly, efficiently and completely.
