Why HydroVim Uses a V-Shaped Drain Base

What is a V-Base Drain?
A V-base drain features a V-shaped channel base rather than the flat bottom found in conventional linear drains. HydroVim's patented V-base design directs wastewater toward the outlet continuously, rather than allowing it to pool across a flat surface.
Why Traditional Flat-Base Drains Retain Water
Conventional flat-base linear drains create a horizontal surface along the full length of the channel. Water that doesn't reach the outlet sits stagnant, promoting soap scum, mineral deposits, and bacterial buildup over time. The wider the drain, the greater the residual water problem.
How the HydroVim V-Base Works
HydroVim's V-shaped drain base creates a continuous gradient toward the outlet along the entire length of the channel. Wastewater is guided to the outlet rather than sitting in the base of the drain. The result is a linear shower drain that drains more completely after each use.
Water Flow
The V-base geometry means the cross-sectional area narrows toward the outlet point, maintaining flow velocity as water moves through the channel. This principle reduces the volume of water remaining in the drain body after the shower is finished.
Cleaning and Maintenance
HydroVim linear shower drains are designed for straightforward access. The tile insert or slotted top lifts out to expose the channel for cleaning. The V-base profile means less surface area for buildup to adhere to compared with a flat-base equivalent.
The Patented Endcap System
HydroVim's patented endcap and locking-pin system firmly secures the endcap to the drain v-base. The endcaps' locking pins ensure the endcaps are precisely locked into place whilst the rebated edges of the endcap create a watertight seal once the sealing compound has cured.
Installation
HydroVim linear shower drains are designed for installation by licensed plumbers and tilers. See our installation guide for full instruction. For technical specifications and installation documentation, please contact us or refer to the product documentation included with your order.
WaterMark Certification
WaterMark is Australia's mandatory certification scheme for plumbing and drainage products. A WaterMark-certified product has been independently assessed to confirm it meets the relevant Australian Standard for its application. HydroVim linear shower drains carry WaterMark certification, which is required for legal installation in Australian residential and commercial plumbing systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a V-base drain different from a standard linear drain?
The V-shaped base channels water toward the outlet rather than allowing it to sit flat across the bottom of the drain body. This reduces residual water after each use.
Is HydroVim WaterMark certified?
Yes. HydroVim linear shower drains carry WaterMark certification, which is the mandatory Australian standard for plumbing and drainage products.
What drain lengths are available?
HydroVim drains are available in a range of lengths to suit standard and custom shower configurations. See our full product range for current size options.
Can I tile over a HydroVim drain?
Yes. HydroVim's tile insert linear shower drains are designed to accept a cut tile insert, allowing the drain to blend seamlessly with your floor tile.
What finishes are available?
HydroVim linear shower drains are available in multiple finishes including Brushed Nickel, Champagne Gold, Light Bronze, Dark Bronze, with a Brushed Olive Green option being prepared for launch. Check the current product range for available finishes.
How do I clean a HydroVim linear drain?
Lift the top insert out of the drain body. Rinse the channel and wipe down the V-base with a damp cloth. Reinstall the insert. No tools required for routine cleaning.
Can HydroVim drains be used outdoors?
Yes, where the product specifications support the application. HydroVim drains are used in balcony and outdoor wet area installations. Confirm suitability with your plumber for your specific project.
Who installs a linear shower drain?
Linear shower drains must be installed by a licensed plumber in Australia. Your tiler will typically work alongside the plumber to set the fall of the floor and position the drain correctly before tiling.
What is the locking-pin system?
HydroVim's patented locking-pin system secures the drain end cap to the drain body, preventing movement whilst the endcap bonding product cures.
Do HydroVim drains come with a warranty?
All Hydrovim drains come with a lifetime rust proof warranty.
